FAQ’s
New to Play With Clay? We've got you! Find everything you need to know before your session below – then all that's left to do is turn up, get messy and have fun.
-
Not for Hand-Building or Wheel Throwing! These sessions are beginner-friendly and we'll give you a quick demonstration to get you started, with guides on the tables to help along the way.
Wheel Hire is designed for experienced makers who are confident throwing independently. You’ll be expected to centre your own clay and work without tuition or demonstrations.
-
No. Play With Clay is designed to be a relaxed, self-guided way to get creative with clay rather than a structured pottery class.
We'll give you a quick demonstration at the beginning and there will be guides and inspiration available throughout the studio, but the rest is up to you. Experiment, make a mess and see what happens!
If you're looking for more in-depth tuition, we'd recommend booking one of our pottery workshops or courses instead.
-
No. Play With Clay is all about the experience rather than creating a finished piece to take home.
At the end of your session, your clay goes back into our reclaim system where it's recycled and turned back into usable clay for future sessions.
-
No, Play With Clay is purely a making experience, so painting and glazing aren't included. All clay is reclaimed and recycled at the end of each session, and clay that has been painted or glazed can no longer go through our reclaim process.
-
Everything you need to play! Clay, tools, aprons, pottery wheels for those booked onto Wheel Play or Wheel Hire, and plenty of inspiration are provided.
There's no need to bring anything with you, just wear something you don't mind getting a little messy.
-
Wheel Play is for beginners who want to experience using a pottery wheel. We'll give you a quick demonstration and help get your clay centred so you can get straight into having a go.
Wheel Hire is for experienced makers who already know how to centre, throw and use a pottery wheel independently. It is practice time rather than tuition, so staff won't be available to teach or troubleshoot throwing techniques.
-
Clay is included in your session and you'll have plenty to experiment with. Because nothing is fired, don't worry about making the perfect piece - squish it, recycle it and have another go!
-
For Hand-Building and Wheel Play, we'll take care of the clean-up! At the end of your session, we'll simply ask you to place your clay into our reclaim buckets so it can be recycled and reused. We'll take care of cleaning the tools, tables and wheels.
For Wheel Hire, cleaning is part of your booked session. As this is independent studio time, you'll be responsible for thoroughly cleaning your wheel, tools and workspace and returning everything to where you found it. Please make sure you leave enough time at the end of your session to do this.
-
Play With Clay is designed for adults and older teens. Hand-Building and Wheel Play are suitable for ages 16+, while Wheel Hire is strictly 18+ and requires previous throwing experience.
Unfortunately, we're unable to accommodate anyone below these age requirements.
-
No. All clay used during Play With Clay stays in the studio and is reclaimed and recycled after each session.
-
You're still welcome to join your session if you arrive late, however all sessions finish at the advertised time to allow us to clean and reset the studio ready for the next group. Unfortunately, we can't extend your session to make up for lost time, so we recommend arriving on time to enjoy the full experience.
-
We require at least 7 days' notice for any cancellations or requests to reschedule your Play With Clay session as per our T&C’s. Cancellations or rescheduling requests made within 7 days of your session are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date.
